It's Tryout Season, Here's How to Stand Out.

Standing out at tryouts isn’t just about being the most talented player—it’s about showing coaches you bring a complete package. With so many players competing for limited spots, the ones who stand out combine skill, mindset, and effort in everything they do.

First, technical ability is key. Coaches notice players who are clean and efficient on the ball. A purposeful first touch should set up your next move, not just control the ball. Strong dribbling and 1v1 ability make you dangerous, while sharp, intentional passing shows awareness and decision-making. Being able to finish with both feet adds versatility and separates you from others.

Next, personality matters more than people think. Coaches look for confidence, presence, and energy. How you carry yourself—your body language, communication, and attitude—can leave a lasting impression. Players who bring positivity, encourage teammates, and stay composed stand out beyond just their skills.

Finally, work rate can be the difference-maker. Effort is always visible. Coaches want players who are hungry and willing to work every drill, every rep, and on both ends of the field. Sprinting, pressing, and competing consistently show that you’re fully committed.

At the end of the day, standing out comes down to consistency. When you combine technical skill, strong personality, and high work rate, you become a player coaches can’t ignore.
